SUVA, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Lantern Festival was celebrated here in Fiji on Friday night with the participation of Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Qian Bo and about 300 people from the local Chinese community and various circles of Fiji also attended the celebrations.
The celebration, organized by the Overseas Chinese Service Center in Fiji (OCSCF), featured live music, fashion show and delicious Chinese food.
OCSCF director Zhao Fugang told Xinhua that this year the Chinese community in Fiji has every reason to celebrate the Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival because both China and Fiji have successfully contained the spread of COVID-19.
The overseas Chinese living in Fiji will continue to play a role of bridge to help strengthen the friendship between the two countries, Zhao said.
The Lantern Festival is the last day of the Spring Festival in China, which marks the first full moon night in the Chinese lunar calendar.
