TOKYO, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Monday morning, following losses on Wall Street late last week as expectations the Federal Reserve will significantly cut its interest rate this month receded.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 59.68 points, or 0.28 percent, from Friday to 21,407.31.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 5.47 points, or 0.35 percent, at 1,558.49.
Food, precision instrument, and pharmaceutical-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
