WASHINGTON, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- The New York Knicks have officially traded All-Star forward Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks, the team announced on Thursday.
In the seven-player swap, the Knicks receive Dennis Smith Jr., DeAndre Jordan, Wesley Matthews and two future first-round draft picks from the Mavericks while Courtney Lee, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Trey Burke will head to Dallas with Porzingis.
According to local media, Porzingis talked with Knicks management about the state of the franchise and his future with the team earlier. Porzingis and his brother, Janis, who is also his agent, expressed their frustration with the franchise's losing ways and uncertainty over creating a sustainable and successful organization.
Porzingis has been sidelined for nearly a year with an injury while New York now have 10 wins and 40 defeats to sit at bottom of the East Conference standings.
