JAKARTA, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Both women and men's 3x3 basketball teams of China have advanced to top 8 at 2018 Asian Games here on Friday, they prevailed in all their seven matches in preliminary round.
Men's team defeated host Indonesia and Thailand 22-13, 21-16 respectively. Xiao Hailiang grabbed 19 points in two matches.
"We have been training together as a team for only two months. Thailand players are taller and stronger than us, yet our advantages are speed and flexibility," said Zeng Bingqiang of men's team.
Women's team overwhelmed Malaysia counterparts 22-14, WCBA player Jiang Jiayin contributed a team-high 12 points. Li Yingyun of Chinese women's team said their rivals in coming games are Japan and South Korea.
"We have some problems on rebounds today, the bright side is we are working closely together now." Li added.
Both teams have reached top of their groups and made it to quarterfinals. 3x3 basketball is a new sport in 2018 Asian Games, and will be introduced into Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020.
