BEIJING, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Preparations for the 10th Straits Forum have generally been finished, a Chinese mainland spokesperson said Wednesday.
"Thousands of participants from Taiwan including representatives of political parties, cities and counties, and people of all walks of life, will attend the forum," said An Fengshan, spokesperson with the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, at a press conference.
"The forum will be held in east China's Fujian Province in early June. The general conference will be held in the southern port city of Xiamen on June 6 and a series of week-long activities will unfold in Fujian," An said.
"The forum is a grand event for people-to-people communication across the Strait," An said.
The forum has four sections: youth, grassroots, culture and economy. A total of 69 activities, including a youth innovation competition, will be held, covering topics such as the public interest, the next generation, economy and finance, cross-Strait marriage and traditional culture, according to An.
Wang Yang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, will attend the forum and deliver an important speech, An said.
Hau Lung-bin, vice chairman of the Kuomintang Party, will also attend the forum, An said.
