AMMAN, April 6 (Xinhua) -- China won its first match in the AFC Women's Asian Cup 2018 here on Friday, whitewashing Thailand 4-0 in Group A.
China opened the scoring in the 56th minute when midfielder Song Duan fired from 12 yards as Thailand failed to clear Liu Shanshan's corner.
China's Wang Shuang devoted a delightful free-kick to widen the lead in the 63rd minute.
The third goal came from Li Ying in the 67th minute, and Song, who attended the Asian Cup for the first time, sealed the win in the 77th minute.
In another match on Friday, Maysa Jbarah scored for Jordan in the 15th minute but the hosts lost the game due to an own goal from Yasmeen Khair as well as Philippines' forward Sarina Bolden scoring on 76 minutes.
On Saturday, Group B will witness title-holders Japan meeting Vietnam and Australia facing South Korea at King Abdullah II Stadium in Amman.
It is the first time for AFC Women's Asian Cup to be held in West Asia.
