MOSCOW, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Foreign Ministry said Monday it had appointed Hollywood action film star Steven Seagal its special representative for Russian-U.S. Humanitarian Relations and Common Cultural and Historical Heritage.
"In his new capacity Seagal is expected to promote the development and implementation of various projects of bilateral cooperation in the fields of culture, art, science, education, sports, public and youth exchanges, participate in relevant events on Russian territory and abroad and maintain contacts with U.S. partners," it said in a statement.
Seagal's duties will also include the preservation of Russia's memorable places in the United States and promotion of studies and popularization of the legacy of Russian-U.S. common history.
"I am deeply humbled and honored to have been appointed as a special representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry in charge of Russian and American Humanitarian ties," Seagal tweeted.
"I hope we can strive for peace, harmony and positive results in the world. I take this honor very seriously," he wrote.
The 66-year-old U.S. actor was granted Russian citizenship in 2016 by President Vladimir Putin.
